A Letter of concern from
The Roman Catholic Bishops regarding
the endless extra-judicial killings in Bicol

November 2007

We, the member-Bishops of the Roman Catholic Bicol Bishop’s Conference are deeply alarmed by the endless extra-judicial killings in the entire Bicol Region.  Countless civilians and members of militant organizations become victims of these motorcycle-hooded murderous assassins that kill with impunity.  Orphans and widows in our dioceses grow in numbers day by day.  The trauma and scars of loss of every Christian family will never heal, rather will further be aggravated by the seemingly impregnabable wall of inaction from the authorities and agencies.

Virac, Catanduanes -- After conducting a Fact Finding Mission in baranggay Danicop in the capital town, the team composed of members of the CMJP and KARAPATAN-Bikol released a statement denouncing what they said “were the conscious efforts on the part of state security forces to malign and put the blame on the two civilians on their own deaths”

On the 1st Death Anniversary of Pastor Sta. Rosa:
Candle for Justice, Flower of Hope
and Scripture for Peace and Comfort

On August 3, 2006 Pastor Isaias Sta. Rosa, Pastor of the Poor, was killed by perpetrators positively identified to be members of the AFP 19th Infantry Division.

To mark the first death anniversary, a memorial service to remember the life and service of Pastor Sta. Rosa was held at the Central United Methodist Church in Manila. This was followed by a candle-lighting ceremony at the nearby Plaza Salamanca to protest the unresolved cases of extra-judicial killings and enforced disappearnces under the Arroyo regime.
